"The Big Island"

We were on a sightseeing drive to Polulu, near the northern tip of the island, when a glimpse of a side road beckoned. A little walk along a stream revealed view after view of stunning beauty. Were we in Oz? The air sparkled, the sun flashed on the palm fronds, as little white clouds sailed overhead, casting shadows on the emerald green. I wouldn't have been surprised to see Gauguin with his easel set up nearby. A copse of trees stood alone, like a contemporary sculpture in a New York gallery. I knew it had to be a painting.
