"Sedona"

It's true what they say about the light and the colors here. They're so clear and beautiful, they have a spiritual feeling to them. Stumbling along over the dry earth, stones and little cacti, in the late afternoon light, some sort of yellow plant scattered through the landscape appeared like gold to us. Branches of dried bushes seemed like bones. I thought, "Here is a chance to paint a landscape that is really an abstract expressionist painting"! I wanted to see if I could paint a realistic picture, but retain that abstract quality.
